

DCMS Business Plan
As part of the Coalition Government’s efforts to improve the transparency of the Government machinery all departments are now required to publish their business plans. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport is responsible for tourism and has a number of priorities that it is committed to deliver for the sector.
Departmental Priorities
The plan contains the following six priorities for the Department;
- Deliver the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics
- Create the conditions for growth
- Boost the Big Society
- Facilitate the delivery of universal broadband
- Create a sporting legacy from the Olympic and Paralympic Games
- Strengthen cultural organisations.
Tourism Priorities
Tourism features under the second priority with a sub priority which is to "Enable the tourism industry to deliver faster, more balanced economic growth and streamline and refocus tourism organisations in the process.
Tourism Actions
The actions that will deliver this are listed as;
- Publish government tourism strategy (the target date of which has been put back to January 2011)
- Encourage private sector contribution to a new match-funded marketing initiative to promote tourism from overseas (with a target launch date of April 2011)
- Work with Visit England to improve existing consumer feedback platforms, by enhancing rating and star grading systems for accommodation and attractions
- Reform Visit England to facilitate increased industry expertise on its board
- Restructure Visit Britain to ensure better targeting of high-value and emerging tourism markets, and to achieve significant reductions in its administration costs
