Destination Access Audits
Why should you take part?
Tourism South East has secured part funding for a number of Destination Access Audits in the South East. The Destination Access Audits cost approximately £10,000 and aim to:
- Assess the ability of disabled visitors to experience and enjoy the full range of visitor facilities across the destination and surrounding environment, whether visiting for the day or staying overnight
- Identify the major barriers, physical or otherwise, experienced by disabled visitors that prevent their full enjoyment of the visitor facilities in the area
- Identify opportunities to improve visitor accessibility through changes to physical features, the provision of auxiliary aids and services, alternative methods of service delivery, the rollout of staff training, improved information provision, new access routes or refreshing policies, practices and procedures
- Identify the benefits of and need for co-ordinated access improvements
- Provide local authorities and businesses with a prioristised action plan, to aid the implementation of recommendations
- Help shape development plans in preparation for increased visitor numbers during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
The audit report will enable destinations to integrate access improvements into their development plans and enable tourism businesses in the area to plan and invest in accessible facilities with greater confidence.
Audits have been successfully completed in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, Brighton, Winchester and Buckinghamshire. Tourism South East is pleased to be working with Kent County Council, Dover, Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells and Medway on a county-wide audit of Kent, due for completion on 3 December 2010.
50% subsidy
Tourism South East is offering a 50% subsidy towards the cost of audits, utilising Accentuate funding.
